Singita Sweni in the Kruger National Park might be the little sister of Singita Lebombo but it’s no less opulent. Situated on the verdant banks of the Sweni River, Singita Sweni’s six luxurious suites meld on stilts into the lush river and plump trees. Modern autumnal colored furniture springs to life with vivid shades of green in one of the most intimate lodges in the Kruger. Pretty soon after my arrival I was cart wheeling through my open plan suite to the outdoor shower, on my way admiring my deep and splendid bath with views of the river. But if open plan’s not your thing, you can always separate each area with the cunning divider curtains.
Maybe it’s the use of khaki and leather among the African artifacts, but there’s something classical about Singita Sweni. After some self-indulgent pampering in the new spa, I was half expecting to see one of my forefathers stepping through the dining room complete with pith helmet and jodhpurs. A stirring thought ahead of our derring-do filled evening game drive. Back at the ranch, I slipped under the fine percale for an incredibly romantic (well it would have been if I wasn’t on my own!) night camping under the stars on my made up day-bed on the viewing deck. So if the only stars you sleep under are five – this might just be your ‘sleeping rough’ cup of tea.
This is a place in which to indulge - nurture mind, body and spirit in the state of the art gym and health spa where massive glass walls perpetuate a sense of unity with the serene surroundings. Some of the treatments include ancient Thai massage, hot stone therapy, African head massage and mineral salt scrubs – bliss. And lest we forget the exquisite cuisine – all that’s left is for you to go and experience it for yourself...
