The climate over most of Southern Africa is temperate. Hot, humid conditions are usually encountered in the Mpumalanga region. Heavy summer thunderstorms of short duration in the late afternoon and evening may be experienced. Rainfall occurs mostly during the summer months (October - March). In South Africa the average number of sunshine hours is amongst the highest in the world.
