Thornybush Reserve
Thornybush is a private reserve that covers 11,500 hectares and is within the greater Kruger Park area.
Being fenced off from its neighbouring reserves, Thornybush has maintained a high concentration of lion and the other four of the famous ‘big five’ – leopard, rhino, buffalo and elephant – roam the area at will. The reserve has plenty of antelope and many other interesting mammals and there are numerous endemic and migrant bird species.
The reserve was officially proclaimed in 1979 and has been expanded twice since then to occupy an area three times it’s original size and now runs along the western border of the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve.
In a small and private reserve, your clients game drives will be far more successful. The rangers and trackers know the area like the butt of their guns and sightings are restricted to two vehicles at a time. The animals know the rangers by name and for close encounters this is one of the best reserves in the region.
Your clients vehicle will be completely open for better viewing; their tracker can perch on the car’s bonnet for a better view and they can follow tracks and animals off road. They can also participate in optional walking safaris and night drives – exciting activities that are unavailable in the regulated national park.
